Scope of Position:

Drying Development Process Engineer within the CET Product and Process Development (PPD) Group responsible for developing robust drying processes for new products, in partnership with upstream and downstream processes

  • Develop methods and processes for the drying of new products to scale the drying process from lab drying assets to production assets for new products
  • Partner with Division Engineering and Manufacturing to scale new products to production
  • Work closely with Development to provide direction on materials used for new compositions to ensure ability to dry new products in existing CET assets
  • Provide leadership on programs for electromagnetic drying fundamental understanding
  • Partner closely with the modeling community to champion modeling efforts in electromagnetic, heat and mass transfer, structural, and air flow modeling efforts
  • Use of scientific methods to drive to fundamental understanding and deliver step change improvements in drying process capability, product attributes/quality, and improved process understanding
  • Key contributor for new product testing to ensure safe manufacturing operations prior to production asset trials

Day to Day
Responsibilities:

  • Jointly, with Innovation team, set technical objectives for projects
  • Work in a cross-functional environment:
    link between development, quality, div. eng., commercial, and manufacturing to deliver targeted results
  • Provide process engineering skills for scale-up of new drying processes and products and root cause understanding for scale-up production issues; use the scientific method to drive fundamental understanding
  • Hands-on leadership of new product trials both in the lab and on production assets
  • Use rigorous tools to deliver results including Innovation methodologies, scientific method, potential problem analysis, decision analyses, risk assessments, DMAIC, LEAN, etc.
  • Use engineering principles and data to solve problems
  • Experimental design to determine main effects as well as interactions and optimize important drying processes and/or reduce variability
  • Support interaction with the Process Modeling Group; apply available modeling tools to challenges with new products, and advance model development by providing feedback to the modeling team
  • Develop, maintain and deliver to project timelines
  • Deliver, via team, IP and written documentation

Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel should be expected, dependent on project assignments.
  • Both domestic and international travel.
  • Typical travel requirement is < 25%.

Required Education and Years / Area of
Experience:

  • BS or MS in an engineering discipline (materials science or chemical engineering preferred)
  • 2
    years of project experience in Manufacturing or Engineering roles
  • Leadership demonstrated on project teams responsible for implementation of new products or processes into manufacturing

Required Skills:

  • Technical competence in material science or process engineering
  • Proven experience of successfully developing and delivering technical projects to manufacturing
  • Proven project leadership, including ability to achieve results through matrix organization or team
  • Achieve results through application of rigorous project management methods
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making
  • Familiarity with the Innovation process and ability to contribute at all stages
  • Skills and experience with Design of Experiments methods
  • Experience with application of the scientific method

Desired Skills:

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
