Scope of Position:
This position is in the Sullivan Park Operations Directorate, within the Laboratory Services Management & Engineering (LSME) Department.
The primary function of the department is to provide support for R&D activities by providing professional services in project management, life safety infrastructure engineering, and laboratory space management.
This position is responsible for hazardous gas monitoring and alarming including maintenance, calibration, testing, and laboratory/facility support.
This support includes various locations in the Corning Valley.
The position is also responsible for application of Industry and Building Codes in developing and maintaining life safety systems and processes supporting RD&E.
This is an engineering position within the Life Safety Systems Engineering (LSSE) group with a focus on implementation and sustainability of life safety technology and application of codes, standards, and best practices in order to reduce Corning's liability and protect its employees and property.
Through these efforts the LSSE group provides the S&T community reliable gas detection, alarming, and engineering controls for safety of personnel.
A key part of this job is interfacing with laboratory owners and the Process Hazard Review Board (PHRB).
Laboratory owners and PHRB work together and determine gas monitoring requirements.
This position will implement the installation and commissioning of these requirements.
All modifications and/or additions to Hazardous Gas Monitoring Systems (HGMS) are coordinated through this role.
Close relationships with Lab Owners, PHRB, Project Managers, Workplace Services (WPS) Division, the SP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and SP Security are essential.
The expectation is that this position will proactively coordinate all aspects of HGMS systems including quotation, commissioning, annual testing, maintenance, calibration, and change control in a professional manner.
This coordination includes working with other LSSE members with supporting roles.
The position requires significant customer interfacing, involving understanding the customer's processes and needs, negotiating with multiple customers, maintaining good customer relationships, and providing the customer with the most efficient support.
Day to Day
Responsibilities:

Participate and support the department's safety initiatives as HGMS Subject Matter Expert (SME).
2.
Coordinate calibration and maintenance of gas sensors 3.
Attend PHRB & Project meetings 4.
Provide hands-on support for break/fix situations 5.
Coordinate commissioning of new systems 6.
Work with vendors and suppliers 7.
Ensure documentation is up to date 8.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
